Common Sensor Web

Summary

“It is recommended to GEOSS Architecture and Data Management part, GMES (both FP7 and CDS), INSPIRE to envisage a common understanding and definition of Sensor Web. The results should be presented in a common best practise document.”

Additional information

Context One envisioned way to harmonise the Sensor WEB definition is to describe cross scenarios and use cases using OGC SWE specifications. The result should be a core set of specifications relevant from OGC SWE and from other standard as such from OASIS, W3C (e.g. RESTFul, SOAP, WS Addressing, WS Notification..)
Rationale For instance OGC SWE standards, especially the OGC SOS, is applied in FP6/7 research projects such as SANY, Osiris or GENESIS and by other community in charge of weather forecast as such from NOAA in order to publish results of Earth Data exploitation meanwhile NASA is using SOS for Earth data dissemination. For Earth Data dissemination GMES CDS is foreseen studies to adopt WCS and describe a possible EO Application Profile.
Dependencies ISSUE-ARC-001 Architectural coherence and cross-initiative interoperability
