Preparation Material for the 2nd GIGAS Stakeholder Workshop
This website provides access to relevant preparation material for the 2nd GIGAS Stakeholder Workshop in Ispra.
The GIGAS project studies opportunities to bridge interoperability gaps between the GEOSS, INSPIRE and GMES initiatives and focusses on the use of ISO, OGC and CEN standards. Furthermore it monitors research projects that are dealing with related technologies.
The GIGAS forum is a meeting place for stakeholders interested in these issues. It offers:
- The technical analysis on interoperability topics between GEOSS, INSPIRE and GMES
- An overview of identified interoperability issues and recommended solutions
- An opportunity to discuss these issues with the other members of the community
For the Stakeholder Workshop in Ispra, we have foreseen 6 working sessions. In the following, we would like to point you to those documents and deliverables that are specifically relevant for these working sessions.
Sessions 1, 2, 3 and 5 address the technical topics of Catalogue and Metadata, Data Access, and Data Interoperability. The aim for these working sessions is twofold. First, the objective is to review the issues and recommendations identified in the analysis of the approaches of GEOSS, INSPIRE and GMES in order to identify which of these issues and recommendations are generally agreed and which require further cross-initiative discussions. Second, the objective is to jointly work on a plan on when and where to take concrete actions in order to progress on harmonisation across the initiatives. Together, we will try to identify the right fora for further discussions, the right instruments for actions and the right actors to involve.

Session 4 on the Cross-initiative scenario and Interoperability Testbed has the following two objectives: first, the session will review an architecture approach to deploying two user driven scenarios across the information systems of the initiatives GEOSS, INSPIRE and GMES. Second, the stakeholders will want to consider how their initiative could participate in testing of the scenarios in an interoperability testbed.

In Session 6, we will present and discuss the Long Term Strategy for operating and sustaining a collaboration platform on interoperability issues across the initiatives GEOSS, INSPIRE and GMES.

In order to help us with en effective preparation of the working sessions, we would like to ask you to provide us with the following feedback until 18th January 2010:
- Preference for Working Sessions: please choose one theme from each parallel session
- For the Working Session 1,2,3,4, and 5, we would like to receive your initial feedback on the comprehensiveness of the interoperability issues and recommendations as outlined in the Comparative Analysis + Annex. Your feedback in advance will help to identify the key discussion items
A plain email response to these questions to Moses Gone is preferred.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on any questions concerning the material or the organisation of the Workshop.
Thank you very much for your cooperation and we are looking forward to meeting you in Ispra!
